Bluegrass Horse Feed are welcoming a new young rider to the brand ambassador team, Robert Russell is a competitive young showjumper with a great career ahead of him and lots of passion for his ponies.
Robert has been riding since he was able walk and got the showjumping bug early on in is riding, he registered with Showjumping Ireland as soon as he was able to and currently has three 128cm and one 138cm exciting ponies to compete. Back in 2017 Robert got the opportunity to travel to the world-famous Olympia show in London to compete in the mini majors. He teamed up with Bertram Allen and the pair won second place, “Bertram Allen was so nice and helpful, he is definitely my idol”, stated Robert. He competed at the Wales and West Welsh Home Pony and Cavan Equestrian Centre Home Pony Internationals and was part of the Irish team at Under 10’s 128cm and 138cm levels. He also achieved those golden tickets, qualifying for the 128cm in 2018 and 128cm and 138cm in 2019 for Dublin Horse Show, a dream for any young rider.
The goals for 2020 for this young rider is to keep his training, his favourite training exercise with his ponies and coach Jonny O’Connell is grids. He will also be preparing for Dublin Horse Show qualifiers to hopefully get there again this year.
