CAFRE Enniskillen College held their annual careers day fair on Wednesday 29th January. The event attracts a wide range of industry professionals, giving the students a unique opportunity to discuss their future career options.
Ashley Neely and Vera O’Callaghan, both past students of CAFRE College, attended the careers fair, which is becoming a key event in the Bluegrass Horse Feed calendar each year. The day started with mock interviews, a fantastic opportunity for students to experience an interview scenario with leading industry experts. Ashely Neely (Sales and marketing at Bluegrass) said, “The interviews are always a great part of the day, the students gain vital experience for their future career”.
The afternoon started with an opportunity for the students to visit the industry trade stands and speak directly to the representatives of each company. As a recent past intern to Kentucky Equine Research, Vera was able to give students an exclusive insight into the internship programme. This followed by a career’s discussion panel of guest speakers, chaired by Brendan McCardle. The panel members Christy Grassick, Coolmore Stud; Chris Armstrong, Ballydoyle; Orla Mc Glynn, Drumahoe Veterinary Clinic; Vera O Callaghan, Bluegrass Horse Feeds; and Leigh Preston, The Household Cavalry shared their career experience and gave students helpful tips.
Bluegrass Horse Feed where delighted to continue their support and provide a bursary for the second year which will help fund a study tour trip to Kentucky in March. Ashley Neely presented the award to bursary winner Hannah Alonso O’Friel. Kenneth Irwin MD said “This is a fantastic opportunity for students, its great to continue our relationship with CAFRE college”.
